Why I Use Baby-Led Posing
When I first started photographing newborns, I was strictly lifestyle. Posing newborns scared the hell out of me! How on Earth did people get babies to be so still and pretty?? I finally invested in a workshop and learned the nitty gritty of newborn posing. After 3 years, I decided to go back to lifestyle. I enjoyed it more. It was less work, both during and after the session, I loved the natural look it gave, and it was tons cheaper (for both me and my clients)!
After jumping back into the art of lifestyle photography, I felt that something was missing. My clients weren't grasping onto my love for lifestyle either, so something had to change. That's when I decided to merge lifestyle newborns and posing newborns together!
What is Baby-Led Posing
Baby-led posing is a style in which you use baby's natural movements to create the posing. You allow baby to stretch, to curl, to roll over. When baby settles, I'll gently move their arms from one side to the other, turn their head, or cross their legs to create variety in the images. I'll also use wraps and headbands to create texture.
These sessions take place in the comfort of your home. I bring along my posing bag and light to help me create this timeless look.
I prefer a fresh and minimalist look of white or cream fabric to lay baby on. Accessories are also light neutral colors.
To help create variety, we photograph baby bare and with neutral colored clothing.
If you enjoy the timeless look that I'm able to create, then maybe baby-led posing is for you!
